congrats! you’re hired to be a weaver
here’s the part of the tapestry you’ll be weaving
you won’t see the rest of it but don’t worry about it.
the tools might sometimes break and your part might get cut off later but keep weaving
we’re paying you well so just keep weaving!
ok now there’s a machine that can weave way faster than you… but it’s ok keep at it!!!
i know you love weaving so you will do it forever!
sorry jk now we don’t need you anymore because these machine are way faster and better than you…
oh you want to keep weaving? you hate the machines?
but the machines allow you to go do other things now! you don’t have to sit there and weave all day anymore
but you’ve only ever done weaving? that’s the only thing you know how to do??
well that’s unfortunate

side note: andrew carnegie’s father was a weaver and was impoverished because the weaving industry was dying in the mid-1800s. carnegie, being the rich man he was, clearly would not have become rich if he pursued weaving.
side side note: after adjusting for inflation andrew carnegie was richer than elon by almost 30% more at $309b vs elon at $226b
