at birth i permanently rolled a chinese girl avatar.
to the chinese, one of them. to the americans, a chinese.
i could run away. fly to another planet. rip my soul out. and still be a chinese girl.
there could be countless diversity events. quota upon quota of ensuring 'gender equity' but i will still not understand what it's like to be in another body. live in another body and go through life as another avatar.
in the real world we cannot switch avatars.1
but in vr we can. we can live in another body. listen to an anime girl talk in a guy voice and not question it. casually listen to a frog talk, be a blade of grass, put on a furry suit to try superpowers.2 realize that furries are human just like us and maybe they were actually onto something cool.
i dream of a world where we can use technology as a tool to better understand each other. erase country borders, shatter animosity between the queer and straight, abolish quarrels between the rich and poor, resolve hatred between the stem and non-stem. see past our avatars and into our souls, see each other for what we bring to the world.
people aren't that different from each other. no more than a spawn point, level of melanin, hunk of cash, and some rotations around the sun.
to be human is to live in each others’ stories and realize that we are one of the same.
at least sustainably and reversibly
these are some of the best avatars i’ve ever seen
